Gerry Byrne, Assistant Lacrosse Coach at University of Notre Dame welcomes viewers to the first installment of Notre Dame University Lacrosse Coaching Instruction. Here Gerry takes a minute to give the viewer instruction on setting up "32 Lunch Pail", a drill the men's coaching staff used during teaching time at their lacrosse practices. Gerry believes that these drills are easy to set up and offer lot of space that will guarantee players a lot of reps.

32 Irish Lunch Pail is focused on defensemen and their approaches as well as improving communication. To begin this drill, coach would set up their defensemen into a triangle with each perimeter about 10 yards long.
Responsibilities for the players in the perimeter roles …would be to replicate offensive movement, things that defensemen would normally see in a game. Gerry recommends that defensemen take position as perimeter players as well for them to improve their ball handling in open space.
Defensive players inside the triangle would work on their communication and approach. Each drill will finish with a slide, strip or a groundball escape. Each rep for these players will take about 15-20 seconds and each inside player will get about 4-5 approaches out to a perimeter player. Gerry states that you want to keep your players active and involved. Coach would want to have as many groups of 5 players performing the drills as possible.
32 Lunch Pail works on defensive approaches, defensive recognition of certain dodges, recovery back into the hole, communication, ball handling and footwork.
